“Ah, Riojan wines… tempranillo and friends, (mazuelo, garnacha, and graciano) lovingly crafted into cherry- and cedar-scented wines perfect for today and worthy of cellaring for decades. They are icons in the wine world and deservedly so. With today’s dizzying array of choices, it is fortifying to revisit something so traditional and delicious as classic Riojan wines. We’ll taste six different wines, touching upon terms such as joven, crianza, reserva, and gran reserva. Deborah Hansen is a Spanish-trained sommeliere with a particular penchant for Rioja.”
